Hallsboro is a small town in Columbus County, North Carolina, with a population of approximately 500 people. It is located in the southeastern part of the state and is about 40 miles southwest of Wilmington. The town is primarily residential with a few local businesses and medical offices.
The town is home to the Hallsboro-Artesia Volunteer Fire Department and Hallsboro High School, which serves grades K-12. Outside of the town, residents can enjoy outdoor recreation at Lake Waccamaw State Park and the Waccamaw River.
The town was incorporated in 1907 and was named for the Halls family, who were early settlers in the area. The town celebrated its centennial in 2007 with a parade, carnival, and other festivities.
